In the 1970’s, sculptress Marina Núñez del Prado Viscarra, born October 17th 1908 in La Paz, Bolivia, established her residence and art studio in what would become the Museum Hose, located in 300 Ántero Aspillaga Street, right at the center of the El Olivar Forest. This neocolonial-styled house, acquired in 1973 from Don Luis Alayza y Paz Soldán. It became the first house in the whole of El Olivar to be declared National Cultural Heritage.
In 1984, Doña Marina created, alongside her husband, Peruvian writer Jorge Falcón, the Marina Núñez del Prado de Falcón Foundation, with the aim of preserving and showing the artist’s work and her husband’s intellectual works. After her death, in 1995, this numerous and priceless legacy passed into the hands of the Foundation.
Thanks to a Gratuitous Bailment Contract between the Marina Núñez del Prado de Falcón Foundation and the Municipality of San Isidro, signed on January 9th of 2008, the Museum House has been salvaged, along with its collection of art works and documentary archive. In 2009 and through to the first months of 2010, inventory has been made and 1.364 cultural goods have been registered at the Ministry of Culture (then National Institure of Culture). And the same task is being performed with her pop-art collection of 137 pieces by Peruvian artisans such as Master Mamerto Sánchez, which she liked to collect.
Her love for art and nature was captured in a manuscript titled Eternity in the Andes, edited in 1973, from which we have extracted a few lines “…My curiosity as a child touched by artistic restlessness, questioning everything, and nature was my first teacher… I found in nature a second home and in the elements and phenomenons of nature I found wisdom and proportions”.
By restoring the value of the Museum House and its garden of sculptures, we are fulfilling the most intimate desire of this distinguished sculptress: to transform that space into a place to admire her artistic work, of investigation and preservation of art and culture.
